Look At This Big Batch Of RUROUNI KENSHIN Sequel Promo Images!
August 1 can’t come fast enough for moviegoers in Japan ahead of the release of director Keishi Otomo‘s new sequels to the 2012 smash hit, Rurouni Kenshin.
Several posters, pictures and a few trailers have already gone viral for the upcoming release of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno and the September 13 release of Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends. However, if that is not enough, the highly anticipated movies are being graced with a ton-and-a-half of promotional artwork, including six new character posters featuring Takeru Satoh reprising his role, along with Emi Takei, Yosuke Eguchi, Ryunosuke Kamiki, Yusuke Iseya and Tatsuya Fujiwara. The images come courtesy the official Facebook page for the sequels, and readers of Comic Book Movie.

Watch A New Five-Minute Featurette For The New RUROUNI KENSHIN Sequels!
Rurouni Kenshin fans in Japan and the Philippines are getting first dibs at director Keishi Otomo‘s theatrical two-part contribution to the live-action manga franchise in just a little over a month and a half from now, and if you haven’t seen the first film on a legitimate DVD or Blu-Ray, (and if this latest study on DVDs and Blu-Ray discs won’t be an issue for you three years from now) you’re in luck. Several editions of it are already available on said platforms from various international distributors (and I’m not including the bootleg DVDs floating around out there claiming to be “all-region” and legit. If it does get legitimate U.S. distribution, you’ll hear it from me. Pinky swear).
In the meantime, if you have seen the 2012 film, then the following video now being featured at the official YouTube channel for the upcoming sequels shouldn’t be a huge spoiler for you. It’s a small five-minute recap of the first film leading up to a quick promo at the end, and it’s entirely in Japanese with no subs, but the footage should suffice nonetheless; The video also comes off of earlier news that the forthcoming movies with Takeru Satoh reprising his role as the lead will be preceded by a one-shot publication of a prequel manga focused on the principle villain, Makoto Shishio and his love interest, Yumi Komagata (played in the upcoming films by actor Tatsuya Fujiwara and actress/model Maryjun Takahashi) and will illustrate how Shishio formed his assassin organization, the Jupponagata. That publication arrives on shelves next month.
In the meantime, check out the video below, and if you’re a regular reader of my site living in Japan or the Philippines, know that the two sequels to come, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno, and Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends, will open on August 1/August 20, and September 13/September 24 respectively in their countries on said dates.

While Japanese households will catch actor Takeru Satoh on his latest gig in Fuji TV’s new action comedy series, Bitter Blood, the action will continue this summer on the big screen with the actor reprising his role once more in the sequel chambara thriller, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno as the unwitting samurai forced to pick up his sword and defend Japan against the “Jupponagata” (Ten Swords), led by a ruthless assassin, played by Tatsuya Fujiwara.

The New Sequel Trailer For RUROUNI KENSHIN 2 And 3 Unsheathes And Slices Its Way Online!
I fully admit I haven’t had the opportunity to see the first Rurouni Kenshin film that became a film festival favorite back in 2012 before a sequel was greenlit. So hopefully I will get around to that as the hype continues to build for the new films that are well on their way this year. And not for nothing either, as the sequels are becoming more and more anticipated by fans of the original manga/anime properties, and of the chambara film genre with a teaser already online as of late last year, and a new full length trailer which finally arrived this week which you can check out below.
RUROUNI KENSHIN 2 And 3 Wrap Prinicipal Photography
Sources at Anime News Network forwarded a new photo from Comic Natalie announcing that principal photography has officially wrapped for director Keishi Otomo‘s forthcoming second and third installments of the live-action Rurouni Kenshin Trilogy, following the release of the first film in 2012. The news comes as a fresh new teaser and set pictures and stills for both sequels, Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc and Rurouni Kenshin: The End Of A Legend Arc have already made their way online, including a new photo highlighting the elite swordsmen known as the “Jupponagata” (Ten Swords), headlined by the main villain, Makoto Shshio, played by actor Tatsuya Fujiwara, which you can view below.
Based on the work of manga author Nobuhiro Watsuki, Rurouni Kenshin: The Great Kyoto Fire Arc and Rurouni Kenshin: The End Of A Legend Arc will star Fujiwara opposite actor Takeru Satoh returning for the title role in both films. Other cast members, returning and new, include Emi Takei, Yusuke Iseya, Munetaka Aoki and Yuu Aoi and Yosuke Eguchi, with Min Tanaka, Yukiyoshi Ozawa, Kaito Oyagi, Maryjun Takahashi, Ryosuke Miura and Lisa Ulliel.
Both films are on track to release theatrically in Japan on their respective dates set for August 1, 2014 and September 13, 2014, courtesy of Warner Bros. Japan.
