In a little less than two weeks, filmmaker Brian Rosenthal will be kicking off a new crowdfunding effort for the production of a new multiverse mash-up action horror fan-film series that pits fantastical heroes and villains from memorable movies franchises. The webseries is called Slash/Up, and aims to do for horror and sci-fi movies in its own special way what Bat In the Sun has so far accomplished for its superhero niche. Director Siddharth Anand won over the appeal of filmgoers back in July with the first teaser of his newest action romance flick, Bang Bang. Penned as a remake of the 2010 Hollywood action comedy, Knight And Day, the film is being led by leading man Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, reiterating the classic tale of a woman finding herself in love with a man whose bullet-ridden past will ultimately test her limits as they scatter around the world running away from baddies. Its Hollywood predecessor from helmer James Mangold fared well with me, personally, so I’m curious to see where Anand took the narrative in this his Bollywood take on the story. It was supposed to be a “groundbreaking” maneuver for the film distribution industry in light of the latest updates for Yuen Woo-Ping‘s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend. Now, not quite so much. Monday evening news broke throughout reporting the latest deal between film’s production company, The Weinstein Company, subscription video-on-demand provider Netflix and theatrical entertainment company IMAX that promised a day-and-date release for the upcoming sequel starring Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen. This week however, a handful of theater branches have pulled back from the deal refusing to comply with the release agenda, with at least a total of five major U.S., Canada and Europe-based theater chains backing away, including Regal, Cinemark, Carmike, AMC, Cineplex, Cineworld and Wanda. Lunar Stunts Action Cinema is another one of those rare hidden gems you will find if you use the internet enough in search of stylish independently-produced fight action. Here, founder, independent filmmaker and action designer Eric Nguyen‘s craft has been continually growing little by little, in size and scale of stuntwork, as well as artistic delivery with each project, including his latest offering now available on his channel in the form of Pandora’s Box 2, following the release of its predecessor back in March. Clocking in at about eleven minutes with just five days of shooting in between, Nguyen brings forth a story much more enhanced in drama than the first, which does the action just a little more justice. Love it or hate it, the Michael Bay produced live-action hybrid martial arts spectacle, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is getting a sequel with the possible inclusion of a few extra characters from the franchise. Such characters may (or may not) include urban vigilante Casey Jones, or Dimension X creatures Bebop and Rocksteady; It’s pretty early, so details are scant. However, Bay is returning with his creative team to put together the new film with no official word yet on whether or not Jonathan Liebesman will return to direct for its June 3, 2016 date. While further updates there are still pending, the film is now being loaded with chunks of extras and other gems for its forthcoming home release between November and December, all packaged courtesy of Paramount. RUSH HOUR To Be Adapted Into Television Action Series

A lot of time has been spent going back and forth with the prospects of a fourth addition to the current Rush Hour trilogy. Quite frankly it’s confusing, but it looks like Warner Bros. is ready to take the franchise in a new direction with the production of a new one-hour action series, according to Deadline. Executive producers and showrunners Bill Lawrence and Blake McCormick are expected to stay true to the original film in writing the series, with Hong Kong Chief Inspector Lee and Los Angeles Detective Carter (initally played respectively by Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker), who become reluctant partners on a series of crime-solving misadventures. Hercules helmer Brett Ratner who directed all three successful films between 1998 and 2007, is also joining the series to executive produce with Arthur Sarkissian. Stay tuned for more info.

Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures are currently gearing up for a multiterritorial slate of international releases for its upcoming action horror epic, Dracula Untold, and several pics, clips and featurettes are already making the rounds. The film, directed by Gary Shore, is another installation in origin storytelling which focuses on the ancient tale of the notorious Vlad The Impaler and his quest for ultimate power against an enemy threatening his people, and his family. Actors Luke Evans and Dominic Cooper lead the cast as anti-hero and villain, respectively, and the two can now be seen in a brand new short action clip and a related behind-the-scenes featurette. The film releases in the U.K. on October 3, and in the U.S. a week later.

The news is just breaking at the moment, but apparently director Yuen Woo Ping‘s latest return to the Iron/Crane universe with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Legend may not be distributed in regular 2D theaters. Instead, the film will be making its official groundbreaking day-and-date debut on IMAX screens and on Netflix on August 28, 2015. The film will be the first original movie to stream from Netflix in a new deal with The Weinstein Company as per the growing business relationship between the two companies for first-run film content and other programs. No one really knows the extent to how any particular crowdfunding film project will turn out long after its funds are earned and the project is complete. However, if you know who actresses and stuntwomen Zoë Bell (Death Proof, Raze) and Heidi Moneymaker (Fast And Furious 7, Behind Every Great Man) are, you may be up for less skepticism than you think with their latest collaborative kick-ass action horror short film endeavor, No Touching. The project is being led by writing/directing duo Adam Davis and Will Corona Pilgrim, the latter whose IMDb resume reads like a whose-who in superhero movies.
