SNOWPIERCER Gets Its First Official U.S. Trailer

Lee B. Golden III

Have you ever gotten the feeling of total, absolute frustration from hearing that other people have seen a movie for you? Well, I certainly got that feeling before the The Raid 2 finally hit theaters, and I will be fixing that same problem when I go and see X-Men: Days Of Future Past. But especially, I know where I will be on the weekend of June 27 when director Bong Joon-Ho‘s newest critically-acclaimed sci-fi action thriller, Snowpiercer, arrives on its day-and-date digital, VoD and theatrical release. And to think that all it took was a roughly a whole year after it was released in South Korea and other audiences around the world to much fan appeal. Nearly a year. It never should have taken this long. SYNOPSIS: In a future where a failed global-warming experiment kills off all life on the planet except for a lucky few that boarded the […]

Kozo Takeda Takes Center-Ring In The New MMA Action Drama, DEATH MATCH

Lee B. Golden III

As common as it is nowadays to see the birth of an acting career with former fighting athletes, filmmaker Arty Morgan (a.k.a. Atsushi Muroga, helmer of the Gun Crazy film franchise) isn’t afraid to do step in the ring and do just that. In fact, he did so about a few years ago on location in the Philippines with the production of his latest action drama, Death Match (once known as The Death Match: Fighting Fist Of Samurai Joe). The film appears to be the English-language feature-length screen debut of former welterweight K-1 kickboxer Kozo Takeda who has already done some television work within the past few years. This time, Takeda takes the stage as a former mercenary who partakes in street fights to help a woman pay off her unclaimed debt to a gangster, following a six-year prison sentence for rescuing her from her abusive husband by killing him. The […]

It's A Long Way Down From The Truth In The New Trailer For DEAD DROP

Lee B. Golden III

Luke Goss fans can get a load of more action to come when his new film from director R. Ellis Frazier, Dead Drop, releases the summer. The film, shot a few years ago on-location in Baja, Mexico from a script by Ben Budd, is one in a handful of action thrillers the multifaceted action hero has continually been working on in recent years, with a few more on the way later this year as well. For now though, fans can set the date for July 8 when Dead Drop finally releases on DVD (plus Digital UltraViolet), Digital HD and Video on Demand, courtesy of Lionsgate. Goss is joined by Nestor Carbonell, David Del Rio, Carolina Castro and Cole Hauser. Check out the trailer below the synopsis. Watch The New Trailer For THE EQUALIZER

Lee B. Golden III

After several months of slowly disseminating set pics and stills, Sony/Columbia recently began ramping up promitional efforts for director Antoine Fuqua‘s latest film, The Equalizer, loosely based on the original 1985-1989 TV series starring the late Edward Woodward. As such, the film granted the public with a brand new poster of the film just last week, which you can take a look at below: Aside from other usual action tropes, the film is poised to be one of the more physically demanding roles that lead actor Denzel Washington (Man On Fire, 2 Guns, The Book Of Eli) endured in preparation for the titular role, as so illustrated by Fuqua of Washington‘s “sustained intensity” and minimal use of firearms in Washington’s featured action sequences. “He really hits those mitts,” Fuqua tells USA Today. “And you imagine what he’ll do to you. You might underestimate him. That’s your first mistake.” Fuqua then […]

Tak Sakaguchi Will Be RE:BORN In 2015 For His Final Movie

Lee B. Golden III

It was back in April 2013 when word got around that multifaceted action star and actor Tak Sakaguchi was retiring from the industry. It was a move that nobody saw coming and it shocked and saddened a lot of people (including myself) despite murmurs around the web of a sequel being planned for director Ryuhei Kitamura’s 2000 cult smash hit, Versus, or even a possible follow-up to the 2005 action horror thriller, Death Trance. About a month thereafter, Kitamura even tried to quell the issue, partly stating that if he asked Sakaguchi to come back for the role in which he made his first feature film debut, he would. Well, it has been more than a year now since the news stirred the web, and not much of anything has been said about Versus 2. So, unless you are an insider and you can divulge some verifiable knowledge about it, […]

The Noble Classics: VOL. 3

Lee B. Golden III

Actor, martial arts superstar and philanthropist Jet Li was an unfortunate no-show at Cannes last week where the cast rolled in on the Croisette on tanks to represent the upcoming PG-13 release of The Expendables 3. Nonetheless, despite continuing to deal with hyperthyroidism, the actor continues to do what he does best, and fans will soon find out more in director Wilson Yip’s new film, tentatively titled Fengshen Yanyi (The Investiture Of The Gods). In the meantime, our own Graeme Noble has a few picks in mind in case you’ve been longing for the golden days of Hong Kong action. And this is just a handful with more to come. Read on, and have a great weekend! Bodyguard From Beijing – 4/5, a very entertaining movie with some great acting and good dramatic scenes. This is a very good Hong Kong movie but there is a lack of action. The […]

THE GUNMAN Takes Aim With New Release Dates

Lee B. Golden III

Pierre Morel is one of my favorite directors, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that regard. The 2010 thriller From Paris With Love drew some mixed reactions, but Taken was a huge hit in 2008, preceeded by the popular parkour action favorite, Banlieue 13, so I’m more privy to believe that Morel‘s next, The Gunman, will further draw some positive impressions. To our good fortune, that day will come to North American theatergoers on February 20, 2015, following Open Road Films’ acquisition of the film’s U.S. rights from international sales agent, Studiocanal earlier this month. The film will also release in the U.K. the same day as North America, preceeded by its release in France on February 18, and subsequent release in Australia and New Zealand on the 19, with Germany opening the film on the 26. Based on the 2002 novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, Morel directs leading […]

The Force Is With 'Godzilla' Helmer Gareth Edwards To Direct A Star Wars Spin-Off

Lee B. Golden III

Following the success of his new blockbuster entry into the summer with Godzilla, director Gareth Edwards has been confirmed to direct a forthcoming Star Wars spin-off film. The news comes just as Edwards, whose own take on the classic Toho property broke opening weekend records at the box-office since its release a week ago. Edwards‘ participation also arrives in time as Lucasfilm and Disney have already begun principal photography for the upcoming seventh installment being helmed by director J.J. Abrams who co-wrote the script with Lawrence Kasdan, who in turn, will also scribe Edwards‘ spin-off with X-Men: Days Of Future Past scribe Simon Kinberg. Details on what the plot of Edwards‘ film will be are currently unknown, except it is one of three spin-offs that were announced earlier this month, with at least one poised for a December 2016 release. Edwards is also currently tapped to direct a second and […]

Ken Ochiai's UZUMASA LIMELIGHT Honors The Unsung Heroes Of Chambara Cinema

Lee B. Golden III

The golden age of samurai movies may be long gone, but such films are always welcome in the eyes of adoring fans who continue to share appreciation for the chambara genre. That sentiment can be seen extended through the latest effort of director Ken Ochiai in his new film, Uzumasa Limelight, which centers on seasoned action actor Seizo Fukumoto as a retiring stuntman training a young actress in pursuit of action film stardom. The new film showcases Fukumoto‘s in his first principle lead role, ostensibly based on his own life as a “kireriyaku”, perfecting the art of dying on screen to sell the hero’s performance. To date, Fukumoto‘s eclectic career highlit by names such as the late Kinji Fukusaku and Shigehiro Ozawa, and actors like Sonny Chiba, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tom Cruise, has earned him the legendary record of dying on film anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 times, a figure […]

Cop And Criminal Join Forces In The New Film, EAGLE AND HAWK

Lee B. Golden III

It’s been nearly nineteen years since Mikio Osawa and Kazumi Morohoshi took the public stage as members of the Japanese pop idol group, Hikaru Genji. Having ventured heavily into film and television following the group’s split, the two can now be seen in Osawa‘s directorial debut for the new film, Eagle And Hawk. The trailer has gone viral since mid-April offering a glimpse at what looks like a glorious throwback to old-school 80’s and 90’s Yakuza crime thrillers; low in budget, but loaded with its fair share of action and firepower to whet the appetites of any fan who love a good gangster flick. And to the good fortune of Japanese audiences, the film comes out domestically this weekend. Osawa and Morohoshi are joined by Ninja: Shadow Of A Tear co-star Shun Sugata, along with actress Ritsuko Tanaka, and actors Hitoshi Ozawa and Masao Orimo. Watch for more news if […]

The New International Trailer For JUPITER ASCENDING Is Online

Lee B. Golden III

As much as some film fans may complain that there are too many remakes on the big screen, the forthcoming release of the new film from Lana and Andy Wachowski, Jupiter Ascending, should be a refreshment. It’s original sci-fi, and despite some polarizing opinions about the aforementioned sibling film duo’s previous work, Cloud Atlas with co-helmer Tom Tykwer, it’s inarguable that Jupiter Ascending represents another clear example of pure creativity by artists who know how to dazzle the screen. Mila Kunis leads the cast with actor Channing Tatum, and actors Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne and Douglas Booth also starring. Check out the new international trailer for the French debut of the film which opens on July 23, following the North America date set for July 18. The New Trailer For HEROPANTI Brings Action, Romance, And The Mechanics Of Kicking People In The Face

Lee B. Golden III

The martial arts cinema genre is still fair game anywhere around the world, including the inner-circles of Bollywood cinema, an industry that is said to produce out up to a good thousand films per year. And in 2014, actor Jai Hemanta Shroff who goes by the official screen persona, Tiger Shroff is ready to jump onboard the action scene in his upcoming theatrical debut, Heropanti. A bastian of fitness, avid Bruce Lee fan and son of veteran actor Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, Tiger has driven some pretty huge buzz in the past few years as the next big thing despite being a fresh face. And as of late, Tiger‘s made himself pretty busy promoting his new film, even so far as giving live performances with his team to illustrate the authenticity of his skill set without wires. Directed by Sabbir Khan, Heropanti stands to be the first of two films […]

Marvel Hosts Q & A For New Trailer Unveiling Of MARVEL'S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Lee B. Golden III

I’m not a fan of trailer teasers, so I didn’t bother pushing the latest three for director James Gunn‘s new film, Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. Aside from the tedious promotional stuff, full trailers are the milk and cookies that moviegoers look forward to when looking up a film on line. Speaking of which, said film above now has a full trailer which you can check out below courtesy of the film’s official Facebook page following today’s live Q and A about the film with the cast and crew. From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after […]

NINJA THE MONSTER Kickstarts Shochiku's New Film Initiative

Lee B. Golden III

Budgets are usually an issue for some directors; I guess the opposite is true for risk when it comes to some studios. Me, personally, I’m all for a director using as much money as possible to allow the creative process to fully flourish and make the film not only excellent, but memorable. And there are directors who are able to achieve this on various productions throughout the world with low budgets, as opposed to Hollywood where studios will spend hundreds of millions of dollars to make a film, a move that can go one of two way depending on the title, which brings us the latest from Shochiku. Back in 2010, rival studio, Nikkatsu launched a short series of small-budgeted productions subsidized under production label, Sushi Typhoon, producing and distributing gonzo cult favorites like Deadball, Yakuza Weapon, Cold Fish and Mutant Girls Squad before shutting down in 2011. Four years […]
