Details are scarce at the moment, but if all things go according to plan, cult sci-fi and female-centric action may have another venture to look forward to on the big screen. And who do we have to thank for this? Well, that turns out to be the folks over at Sony Pictures who have just picked up a script in the form of another new potential action sci-fi franchise starter, The Eden Project.
The Cider House Rules and former Spider-Man actor, Tobey MacGuire, will be flexing his producing muscles under his Material banner along with Matthew Plouffe. Blacklist writer Christina Hodson provided the script which will center around two females in a science-fiction action story, the potential first of its own trilogy for Sony/Columbia. That’s it. That is all that’s being allowed public at this point, so you’re allowed to be a little bit frustrated, although it’s safe to say that the gaining promotional efforts of films like Jupiter Ascending and the Hunger Games and Divergent franchises, in addition to the forthcoming adaptation of the 2013 YA novel, The 5th Wave as of late, may leave filmgoers expecting another flick geared toward a PG-13 audience.
But, I digress. It is early so official details are still on the way. And if you like watching girls kick future-tense ass, The Eden Project is worth bookmarking.

Mixed martial arts sensation and action actress Gina Carano (Fast And Furious 6, In The Blood) is still up for a possible role in the new sci-fi actioner, The Opium War, as per an announcement earlier this year. This week however, production for the film which was once slated sometime between July and September has been pushed back to November according to a new report from Syracuse.
The film is being directed by Justin Steele from a script by Jeremy J. Levy and would join Carano with actor Stephen Lang in a story about a female astronaut who crash-lands and is offered a smuggling job that will pay for repairs to her ship. The film is part of a new job creation initiative stated back in March this year for the installation of a new nanohub on the campus of SUNY College Of Nanoscale Science And Engineering, to be occupied by Film House L.L.C. for the production of several films between now and next year.
Further announcements await regarding official info on the film and its other cast as pre-production is expected to kick off in October with filming to resume in November and December. Stay tuned for more info!
Young adult bookworms have had their eye on actress Jennifer Lawrence for a few years now as she’s morphed into a cinematic success story. Not only does she lead one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises to date, but she’s also a Guiness 2015 World Record holder, which undoubtedly pleases the folks at Lionsgate ahead of the upcoming release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.
The film is an epic story of love in a time of war pitting young archer Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence) in the crosshairs of a post apocalyptic future dictatorship led by President Snow whose annual life-or-death gaming events have been Panem’s only means of suppressing its masses, until now.
SYNOPSIS:
The worldwide phenomenon of The Hunger Games continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is directed by Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Danny Strong and Peter Craig and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the third in a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins that has over 65 million copies in print in the U.S. alone.

Sengoku: Bloody Agent stars Travelers actress Ayumi Kinoshita, and Lupin The Third co-star Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi, with Genichiro Osita, Rei Toda, Yuto Nakano, Rie Nishiwaki and Eisuke Sasai rounding out the main cast. Watch the new trailer below!
On its face, watching actor Jeff Bridges wax medieval with a British accent doesn’t sit well with me, even in the latest trailer for the long-awaited release of Nomad (2005) and Mongol (2007) helmer Sergei Bodrov‘s forthcoming fantasy actioner, Seventh Son. However, considering the epic series of set backs that followed with Academy Award-winning VFX house Rhythm And Hues Studios filed for bankruptcy during post production and Legendary Pictures landing the film at Universal Pictures for distribution after parting ways with Warner Bros., I’d say the actor’s methods are the least of my worries, lest I judge the film too soon.
Eleven years doesn’t really seem too far off when recalling actress Kate Beckinsale’s portrayal of a vampire warrioress in director Len Wiseman’s 2003 hit, Underworld, on top of its fourth installment, Underworld: Awakening, just two years ago. However, the franchise has had some success over the years, and there was once a time when a then-skeptic Beckinsale may have wanted to a return for a possible fifth addition to the Vampire V. Lycan war/romance saga.
Nevertheless, Lakeshore Entertainment is ordering a complete revival of the franchise once again, with Priest scribe Cory Goodman providing the screenplay for the new reinterpretation of the sci-fi horror saga, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The previous four films began as the brainchild of author and creator, franchise co-star and actor Kevin Grevioux, with Beckinsale principally starring in the franchise along with actress Rhona Mitra in the epic story of forbidden love amidst a long and enduring war between royal vampire families and werewolf clans. Actors Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, and Scott Speedman also played key roles.
The sequel, Underworld: Evolution (2006), the prequelized third, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) and Evolution‘s follow-up, Underworld: Awakening (2012), were modest hits worldwide after the success of the first film, ultimately banking on its worldwide gross of well-over $450 million. Wiseman also directed the second film, as well as produced all three follow-ups with Gary Lucchesi and Tom Rosenberg, who are also returning to produce the new movie.
