Garuda 7, Indonesia’s answer to The Expendables franchise has been in development for quite some time now, and has undergone a bit of evolution in the past year. Nowadays, it appears the forthcoming production is taking shape, as indicated by the official Facebook page where a new poster can be found brandishing its current cast listing. The infamous “merc with a mouth” otherwise known as Deadpool has been a major subject of discussion over the last several years. Having been featured in the 2009 film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine by actor Ryan Renyolds, the character went on to become the very center of its own fan-driven movement for a self-titled film to do it justice. Test footage from Blur Studios also leaked online a few months back before 20th Century Fox pulled it. However, much to the favor of fans, the footage proved to be every bit as impressive as they hoped it would be, and it obviously left the fans wanting more, especially with the hopes of an R-rated production. Mixed martial arts sensation and action actress Gina Carano (Fast And Furious 6, In The Blood) is still up for a possible role in the new sci-fi actioner, The Opium War, as per an announcement earlier this year. This week however, production for the film which was once slated sometime between July and September has been pushed back to November according to a new report from Syracuse. The film is being directed by Justin Steele from a script by Jeremy J. Levy and would join Carano with actor Stephen Lang in a story about a female astronaut who crash-lands and is offered a smuggling job that will pay for repairs to her ship. Martial artist, actor and online content creator Aaron Gassor, better known by his nom de plume, Ginger Ninja Trickster, popped up on my radar as early as last year with the earlier promotion for his upcoming appearance in Marcus Shakesheff‘s directorial debut, Kamikaze. Needless to say, he’s been making waves within the martial arts cinema circles for sometime now, as a performer, as well as an athlete and instructor. If you’ve subscribed to his Facebook page at all within the past year, you’ve likely seen some amazing videos, including various solo and collaborative acts from time to time. His most recent get-together with Welsh indie group, Flawless Films can now be viewed online featuring Gassor at his most snarky in a Spider-Man costume opposite the Dark Knight himself, played by Jake Rogers. A modern day noir Romeo & Juliet love story set in Los Angeles is at the center of The Package (2012) helmer Jesse V. Johnson‘s newest noir crime drama, The Beautiful Ones. Johnson wrote and directed the film which has been on the way for a couple of years now, even host to a musical teaser as recent as last year. That teaser has since upgraded to a full-length trailer set for the film’s release sometime in 2015. Johnson reunites with Green Street Hooligans 2 actor Ross McCall, along with Fernanda Andrade, Brian Tee, Ed Lauter and Julie Warner rounding out the cast. It was back in July that plans were announced for the forthcoming production of Skull Island, an origin telling based on the iconic gorilla monster who has legacy has endured since the 1930’s. The project is being developed by Universal Pictures in association with Legendary Entertainment, the studio currently making a monster of a killing with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla and its sequel, in addition to Jurassic World next year. This week, Legendary is now updating their developments with news of a casting addition in the form of actor Tom Hiddleston who will be joined by director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the helmer previously said to be working on the new Metal Gear Solid film with producer Avi Arad. Independent filmmaker Jeff Centauri is still very much active within the film circles in the Philippines as he’s currently aboard with stunt coordinator Sonny Sison (Broken Path, The Bladed Hand) and writer/director Enzo Williams for their upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry, Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo (Bonifacio: The First President). Until then, Centauri is on the way with another experimental action short dabbling once again with female-centered action in a familiar premise. He’s got a trailer for it as well in the form of Taken To Sell, with actress and model Aiko Ashira leading the story of a woman who sets out to find and rescue her sister from a band of human traffickers. The final weeks of publicity are here ahead the release of director Tsai Yueh-Tsun‘s new film, Black And White 2: The Dawn Of Justice. The 3D action-packed epic opens in Taiwan on October 2, with returning franchise actor Mark Chao starring alongside Kenny Lin and returning actor Huang Bo in a story of two hero policemen on an epic mission to stop a domestic terrorist organization from destroying the world following a deadly attack on Harbour City. It’s been about a year since the most recent reports suggested, and then denied any possible attempt of reteaming director Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon for another installation of the Bourne franchise following the first trilogy… Oh, what a difference a year makes! It appears that Greengrass and folks at Universal were keeping a lid on things at first, and now Deadline is breaking the news that he and Damon are, in fact, on the pathway to another film of the franchise based on late author Robert Ludlum’s work. Needless to say, the duo long known for captivating audiences with the 2001 crime drama, Training Day make an awesome pairing, and moviegoers in North America will get to see more of this when The Equalizer releases on September 26 in 2D and IMAX from Sony Pictures; As for whether or not Washington will get to be the next Bond, well, your guess is as good as mine.
