Director Justin Lin is out and about this year ahead of the July 22 release of his newest film, Star Trek: Beyond. Following a special fan event in Los Angeles on Friday night, a new trailer was shown in the wake of a first trailer that debuted back in December, much to the chagrin of co-star Simon Pegg at the time. And indeed, given what we see now, he isn’t wholly wrong. The first trailer was more geared toward an edgy look and feel whereas the new selling point here is the source material, delving into the overall authenticity of what the trilogy has been going for thusfar. Well, so much for debuting this Friday in front of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The new trailer for Star Trek: Beyond, is alive and well, and VERY early having initially sprung a leak on Monday in German. Alas, clearly releasing it online officially was the only solution so now it’s up, in English and subbed accordingly by Paramount on Youtube for an all-inclusive promo dig. The film is also directed by Justin Lin and judging by the trailer, the film clearly picks up on the beats that made Lin so well known for his work behind the camera on Universal’s Fast And Furious franchise. I’ve written and rambled to almost no end about the Fast And Furious franchise, and at this point, I think director James Wan‘s latest installment with Furious 7 is in no commercial danger of failing at the box office. This franchise has long been a hit having turned from a standalone action thriller into a sprawling saga of epic proportions that continues to stand the test of time. Probably the most fascinating thing will be observing at least one half of this new film with a digitally inserted Paul Walker who departed us in late 2013 halfway through the production, and watching how this will affect the story when it commenses on April 3 in theaters and IMAX. Yahoo! Movies has a new featurette for the upcoming film from Universal Pictures, Fast And Furious 6, directed by Justin Lin, and opening in theaters on May 24, 2013. The clip shows actors Luke Evans , Michelle Rodriguez and Gina Carano discussing their respective takes on the physicality of their characters, including Rodriguez and Carano who go toe-to-toe in what has been described as the female equivalent to the action sequence between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
