SOUTH OF HEAVEN Review – A South Texas Tale Of Revenge.
SOUTH OF HEAVEN was not the original title for the latest film from Israeli writer/director Aharon Keshales. It’s not unusual for films to go through title changes during production but I was struck by a curiosity- wondering how a clever enough title like “Till Death” became the more somber “South of Heaven.” Why choose that phrase for a new title? When I researched the phrase the only thing that consistently popped up was a song, I was passingly familiar with by the metal band Slayer. Stranger connections in pop culture have occurred before, I suppose. So, I thought about this song I had not heard since my young and angry days and how it may add to the understanding of this southern-fried piece of neo-noir from one half of the filmmaking team behind the mean-spirited, yet darkly comic, thriller BIG BAD WOLVES.
BLACK AND BLUE: Naomie Harris Battles On The Frontlines And Color Lines In The Official Trailer
Traffik and The Intruder helmer Deon Taylor’s name is one you ought to keep bookmarked, and he’s proven this aptly with the official trailer for his latest thriller, Black And Blue. The cast brings Naomie Harris into the butt-kicking fray among the likes of Tyrese Gibson, Mike Colter and Frank Grillo who himself is just weeks away from kicking butt in Joe Lynch’s own Netflix outing, Point Blank.
MARVEL’S LUKE CAGE Season 2 Sets Harlem On Fire In Second Official Trailer
For some, June 22 can’t come faster for the Luke Cage fanbase’s binge-crowd. Despite Marvel’s own slight of hand from time to time in the headlines, I’m keen on seeing a certain partnership arise in our title hero’s efforts to clean up Harlem, with actor Mike Colter taken to task.
LUKE CAGE Trailer Reveals What Happens When A Bulletproof Hero Gets His Butt Kicked
Said foe now makes its debut as John McIver by way of a much more grounded villain in Bushmaster, played with commanding caliber by actor Mustafa Shakir who teases quite a villain this time around. The lovely Simone Missick is back as unfettered NYPD detective Misty Knight along with actress Alfre Woodard as the villainous Mariah Dillard.
Mike Colter Lands Mystery Role In Michael Peña Sci-Fi, EXTINCTION
Luke Cage frontman, actor Mike Colter is just months away from his ensemble appearance with the cast of Marvel’s The Defenders in August on Netflix. In the meantime, expect to hear further on his latest addition as an undisclosed character on the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Extinction.
He and actress Lizzie Caplan will be joined and led by actor Michael Peña who will play a man who discovers a unique strength to protect his family in the wake of a brutal invasion that threatens to make his worst nightmares come true. Ben Young, whose 2016 crime pic, Hounds Of Love, became a festival favorite in Venice that year, is directing from a script by Spenser Cohen, Brad Caleb Kane and Arrival scribe Eric Heisserer. Mandeville’s Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are producing the film with Alexander Young executive producing next to Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake from Good Universe, and Erin Westerman overseeing. Anna Halberg will serve as co-producer.
Extinction will release on January 26, 2018 from Universal Pictures. (H/T: Variety)
