THR’s Borys Kit is reporting that Aussie sibling film duo Danny and Michael Philippou are in final talks to direct an upcoming live-action adaptation of Street Fighter. The news comes following the acquisition of exclusive TV and film rights earlier this month from Capcom to Legendary Entertainment. The Philippou brothers are best known as the faces of the RackaRacka YouTube channel, creating spectacular and often explosive stunt action and comedy videos online. Their latest feature film effort, supernatural thriller Talk To Me arrives this summer from A24. Details are pending on their approach to the new Street Fighter film. As Kit notes in his report, however, “if they are being hired off the strength of their breakout, tension and gore may be on the agenda.” Interesting. The Philippous are now the latest in line of helmers to direct their own adaptation of the hit tournament fighting game property which launched […]
Trade news sources all reported on Monday that a new Street Fighter film is now in development. Via The Wrap, “exclusive license” has gone to Legendary Entertainment who are shepherding the film with Capcom. Story, plot and casting details are all unknown for the film which now adds to the monumentally successful franchise based on Capcom’s line of hit fighting video games which launched in 1987, spawning a wave of other trendy fighting games that arose in subsequent years. Apart from the original video animations that emerged, live-action adaptations were made and released in 1994 by director Steven E. de Souza (Universal Pictures’ Street Fighter), and in 2009 by Andrzej Bartkowiak (20th Century Fox’s Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li), and then in 2016 by actor and filmmaker Joey Ansah (Machinima’s Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist). I’ll leave you my thoughts on the latter installment in the Instagram embed below, but […]
It has taken five years to fully accomplish for a franchise that has seen its fair handful of cinematic misses in well over the last twenty years. On Friday though, Capcom’s loyal and longtime cult gaming followers finally had their patience rewarded with the long-awaited teaser for the upcoming new serial feature film, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. The teaser and forthcoming series has already screened in front of a select number of eyes much to the delight of Capcom and crtics online who have lended nothing but words of praise for the new series which looks to become the first live-action project based on the highly successful tournament game line to stay true to its origins after winning fan approval with the 2010 viral short, Street Fighter: Legacy. Produced by Jacqueline Quella, and created by actors Joey Ansah and Christian Howard (Green Street 3, Warrioress), Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist is […]
On Tuesday, actor, writer and director Joey Ansah hosted a half-hour long Q&A recording session to discuss answers from fan questions regarding his new festure-length serial webseries, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. In the video, Ansah, who also starred-in and directed the action sequences with fellow lead actor, co-creator and fight choreographer Christian Howard, delved into a variety of topics ranging from his own personal motivations and aspirations as a martial artists and devoted fan of the original fighting game franchise by Capcom, how the story has been formatted according to the appearances and dimensional explorations of the characters, to the challenges he and the cast and crew faced on the pre-production and filming process, designing the evolutionary layers of the Asatsuken – the titular fighting style of the series, what it means to create a series that differs substantially better from previous live action attempts, and much more. The series […]

The film is directed by Joey Ansah who […]
It has taken several years (decades, even!) to formulate a seemingly ambitious and appropriate vision of Capcom’s Street Fighter to happen in a live-action format, and as we grow closer to the release of that very conception in the form of director Joey Ansah‘s newest labor of love, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, updates on the official Facebook page have been rare as of late. This week, however, fans were treated with another full glimpse of actor, co-writer/creator and fight choreographer Christian Howard in the role of Ken Masters, which you can view above. In addition to this, the official page has updated its followers with an official stated ‘thank you’ from its producer, Jacqueline Quella and co-producer Mark Wooding, in addition to a hint at a trailer date. On Wednesday, the official Facebook page for Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist shared two distinct images of actor Joey Ansah portraying the role of Akuma in the upcoming multi-platform episodic movie. Take a look: (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’)); Post by Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist. If you have seen the 2010 shortfilm, Street Fighter: Legacy by now, you are already familiarized with an idea of how Ansah is approaching the iconic character here in these images, as well as others featuring actor Gaku Space, who plays Akuma’s pre-transformational human character, Goki. But more importantly, for a theatrical feature length treatment, Ansah is promising something way more epic in nature than previously seen. And with the reports already in from those who have had an exclusive look, Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist […]
When was the last time you seen an animation take on its animator? If you’re thinking either one of the Tron movies or Cool World, you might be on to something…which probably means you have never seen something like what animator Jonny Lawrence managed to put together this month for Youtube viewers. Prepare yourselves for battle as life imitates art in the ultimate death match in Maker Vs. Marker, a short film that fuses stop motion with hand-drawn animation that characterises an epic battle between the animator’s hand, and a character inspired by Street Fighter resembling “Akuma”. Think of it as a cross between this, this, this and this. You’ll get it. 🙂 If you would like to see more of Jonny’s work, check out his official website. By the way, you may want to read the description and take Jonny’s advice. Watch this in full HD with a good […]
