THE SEAL OF DEATH: Catch The Trailer For Harris Josey’s Award-Winning Crime Shortfilm

If you’re as new as I am to the goings-on of director Harris Josey then feel free to enjoy the journey with me as we check out a trailer for The Seal Of Death, a shortfilm set in the 1980s and starring Andrew Vilar and Corey Winston. A 1980s Crime/Thriller set in San Fransisco, California. Watch Tony Han and Marcus Ford as they try to uncover the truth and solve the mystery behind the sudden murder of Tina Lin. A quick scroll through the shortfilm’s Instagram page will reveal the project’s history dating back as far as 2020 with initial casting announcements. The short has also gone on to screen at numerous festivals and win some awards along the way as well, and with a sequel already in production for the short, you’re welcome to hit that ‘Follow’ button as I have.

A TRUE NOVEL: Post-WW II Japan-Set TV Drama In The Works

L.A.-based Upgrade Productions is pairing up with Japanese production label Shochiku (Tora-san franchise) to produce eight-part series drama, A True Novel. Acclaimed writer Riko Sakaguchi (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Mary and the Witches Flower, After The Rain) is penning the series. Based on the best-selling Japanese novel from Minae Mizumura, which won the Yomiuri Prize for Literature in 2003, A True Novel is inspired by Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights”. A sweeping narrative set in the decades after World War II in Japan and the US, this series will bring to life a love story spread over three generations as told by different characters. Shochiku’s Shuhei Akita is tapped to produce the series alongside Matt Brodlie and Jonathan Kier from Upgrade Productions, the label itself exec producing the series. Swedish filmmaker Jonas Åkerlund will reteam with actor Mads Mikkelsen for The Black Kaiser, a sequel to Åkerlund’s adaptation of Victor Santos’s 2012 graphic novel publication, Polar which premiered on Netflix in 2019. Mikkelsen, whose recent credits partly include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Anders Thomas Jensen’s award-winning Riders Of Justice and David Yates’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, penned the script with Jayson Rothwell, is reprising his role from the first film with casting currently underway. Polar firstly saw Mikkelsen in the role of Duncan Vizla (a.k.a. The Black Kaiser), settling into retirement when he soon finds himself marked for death by his former employer. LA-based Capstone Global is now the official home of international sales for Mortiz Mohr’s feature directing debut, Boy Kills World. The move partners the company with Nthibah Pictures, Hammerstone Studios, Raimi Productions and Vertigo Entertainment, with Capstone co-repping U.S. rights with CAA. Actor Bill Skarsgård, who is also set to star in a new reimagining of The Crow, stars in the film which is described as “a dystopian fever dream action film”; Skarsgård plays Boy, a deaf mute with a vibrant imagination. DEAD CAMPING THE LIVE Trailer: Who’s Hunting Who?

The press for director Kim Hyun-woo’s new survival thriller, Dead Camping The Live starring actress Son Ji-hyun in her first lead role in a film, has been relatively mild. The trailers are definitely out there though and the film runs at about 72 minutes which some might deem is a little paltry depending on what your own tastes are, and you’re welcome to check for yourselves out there when the film rolls out on May 12. At any rate, I felt like sharing it, because who here doesn’t enjoy Korean cinema of the kick-ass kind? How kick-ass? Welp, Son plays Soo-yeon, a popular social media influencer broadcasting her remote camping escapades when she’s suddenly attacked by a mysterious group. There’s a twist in the plot/synopsis that sort of indicates that the group in question may very well be pawns in a game that Soo-yeon’s been planning of her own… Scintillating!

Paramount+ Australia is getting gears rolling for new ten-episode hourlong crime drama, Last King Of The Cross with actor Ian McShane (John Wick franchise) announced as the lead antagonist back in March alongside Lincoln Younes (Little Monsters). Casting this week is also announcing Callan Mulvey (Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice), Tess Haubrich (Spiderhead, Alien: Covenant), Claude Jabbour (Eden, Stateless), Maria Tran (Truy Sat, Echo 8), Matt Nable (Riddick, Bikie Wars: Brothers In Arms) and Damian Walshe-Howling (Underbelly, Janet King) according to Deadline‘s Max Goldbart.
