Let’s just put this out there: Regardless of how ecstatic you are over Marvel’s The Inhumans, it looks less than stellar or even IMAX worthy judging by Thursday’s EW reveal of our cast in costume. I was but a toddler when director James Cameron’s Terminator was released, and it would be years before I could ever see it on VHS. That said, I saw a televised edit which familiarized me enough to garner excitement for its explosive sequel, Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I guess you could say it’s the film that drew me as a moviegoer for years to come having fallen in love with the action genre and the output of titles at the time and before, inherently earning me as an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan among millions. Action Crime Thriller BEAST OF BURDEN Now Filming With Daniel Radcliffe Starring

Currently rolling cameras in Savannah, Georgia is the new action crime thriller, Beast Of Burden. Swedish filmmaker Jesper Ganslandt is making his English-language directorial debut from a script by Adam Hoelzel with Daniel Radcliffe piloting his way as a border drug runner who works regularly to avoid cartels and the DEA among other obstacles during jobs. Actor Lawrence Fishburne plays a cartel handler who helps him in the process while actress Grace Gummer plays his wife who helps him escape the threat of the cartels. Paul Schiff is producing with Michael Diamond of MGMT Entertainment, Green-Light’s Chad Moore and Jeff Elliott and financiers Mary Aloe, Sean Glover and Wei Wang of WYSJ Media and Aloe Entertainment Productions. The last several years have shown ample box office success in adapting the character, something that director Derek Kwok is now keen on with Wukong, inspired by pen-named author Jin Zehai’s 2000 novel. That didn’t stop Herman Yau’s new bomb disposal thriller, Shock Wave from hitting the top spot at the box office just this past weekend in China, thus lending an ample start for the film’s run as it hits screens overseas. Author Shiba Ryotaro passed away in 1996 whilst leaving behind a memorable body of literary work largely focused on historical events in Japan. One such publication arose thirty years earlier with Sekigahara, now the primary focus of The Climber’s High helmer Harada Masato’s latest period drama highlighting an intense looking tale of wartime romance. For this, we now have a first official trailer for the film which opens in Japan on August 26 and while there’s not much to look at in romance, the footage offers plenty in the vicinity of violent upheaval and drama. Say what you will about the most recent Justice League trailer; Warner Bros. Pictures’s latest ensemble DCU succession still may need sharpening but there’s no question that one of the biggest selling factors has been actor Jason Momoa in the role of 75-year long celebrated DC character, Aquaman. Thus, per the studio’s teetering, albeit cohesive efforts to hold together something true and gold for comic book fans and moviegoers, the official solo branch-out for the acclaimed ruler of Atlantis and protector of Earth has begun principal photography under helmer James Wan (“The Conjuring” films, “Furious 7”). Shane Salerno To Write GEARS OF WAR For Universal

Following its announcement last October, Universal’s forthcoming Gears Of War adaptation has now found a writer in Shane Salerno (Armageddon, Savages, the Avatar saga). The film is inspired by the popular Epic Games publication which took off in 2006 and followed with four titles thereafter. The adaptation, accorrding to Microsoft’s The Coalition head, Rod Fergusson late last year, will reportedly focus its narrative on a new story set within the universe, about a squad of commandos in a post-apocalyptic war with alien Locusts on the fictional planet of Sera. Universal’s Dylan Clark is producing the film. (H/T: Deadline)

PEPPERMINT: Lakeshore Scores ‘Taken’ Helmer Pierre Morel To Direct The Female ‘John Wick’ Revenge Actioner

There’s no question that a film like John Wick has bolstered some really solid action films in the last few years – most notably its sequel and the inbound Atomic Blonde. Such is the hype now surrounding Lakeshore Entertainment who reportedly won a bidding war with seven figures for a new female-centric action thriller in the same vein titled Peppermint. London Has Fallen co-scribe Chad St. John wrote the script for which THR’s report shares a plot vague enough to leave you filling in some blanks: Peppermint is a revenge story centering on a young mother who, due to circumstances, finds herself with nothing to lose, and is now going to take from her rivals the very life they stole from her. Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Richard Wright and Eric Reid are producing the film, thus adding to their arsenal of female-driven actioners which already include the Underworld franchise. KILLERMAN Nabs Liam Hemsworth To Star

If a title like Killerman doesn’t get your attention in search of action movie news, I don’t know what will. Actor Liam Hemsworth (The Expendables 2, Independence Day: Resurgence) is reportedly on deck to star in the film from a script by Cash Only helmer Malik Bader. Described as a visceral action thriller, Killerman sees Hemsworth as Moe Diamond, a small-time money launderer who finds himself on the run from a horde of gangsters and dirty cops when a deal goes awry and his escape results in a freak accident that renders him an amnesiac. THR reports that filming is slated for August with John and Michael Schwarz producing along with The Solution’s Myles Nestel. Executive producing is Lisa Wilson over at The Solution who is fully financing and handling international rights for the film’s Cannes presentation while WME handles domestic rights.

Brian DePalma’s DOMINO Rolls For Nicolaj Coster-Waldau And Christina Hendricks

We’re still a ways from Ric Roman Waugh’s new thriller, Shot Caller which opens on August 24 from Saban Films. In the meantime, news is abound ahead of Cannes and deals are coming together, the latest with the aforementioned film’s star, actor Nicolaj Coster-Waldau, now tapped to join actress Christina Hendricks in acclaimed director Brian De Palma’s new action thriller, Domino. Petter Skavlan (Kon-Tiki, Sophie’s World) wrote the script for the film which centers on a Copenhagen police officer caught in a cat and mouse game with a duplicitous CIA Agent as our hero cop sets out from Scandinavia to Spain to track down a cop killer with the help of his late partner’s mistress and a fellow cop. Producing are Peter Garde and Michel Schonnemann while IM Global will present the film to buyers in Cannes this month. ICM who is financing will represent the film for North America.

Award-winning director Alex Ranarivelo’s latest invokes some hefty murder mystery and suspense to bookend with its added element of environmental upheaval. Pray For Rain is the title and with a stake over at Vertical Entertainment for its June 16 release, now has an official trailer. A young New York journalist returns to the idyllic Central California farming community where she was raised only to find it has been ravaged by drought and has become a place ruled by gangs, violent threats and greed. She is forced to investigate the suspicious circumstances of her father’s death even though it puts her in great danger. This may very well be the first Stephen King-inspired film that has ever peaked my interest. Heroes Unite, Reluctantly, In The First Official Trailer For THE DEFENDERS

The fervor didn’t exactly rest easy earlier this year in all the debate over how to receive Netflix’s first season of Marvel’s Iron Fist.
