Turbo/XLrator Media I think the only time I’ll ever fully enjoy an Isaac Florentine film is when he’s busy immersing the audience in MMA matches with prison Spetz champ, Uri Boyka at the center of an Undisputed film. Beyond that, I can’t really help but view last year’s Close Range as anything more than what it is. Even with B-movie action cinema, there’s a way to hit the sweet spot, and unfortunately this one doesn’t. However, that’s not to say this film doesn’t try and it certainly does, but only in ways we’re probably already familiar with. Action star Scott Adkins is back and doing his best to shake off his English accent to sound more American, here and now Colt MacReady, a former soldier-turned-outlaw. Marvel Confirms PUNISHER Spin-Off Netflix Series Development

Netflix If you’re looking forward to more the Netflix/Marvel universe has to offer between now and next year, the season two premiere of Daredevil is just a few months away with a March 18 date stamped. By then, you’ll be introduced to actor Jon Bernthal in the role of the Punisher among a roster of other seedy characters actor Charlie Cox will be facing. That said, news of a Punisher series has been circling around quietly online for about a year now, but now it appears that Marvel is confirming the development of a Punisher spin-off with Bernthal likely to star. The news is early so details are pending, but with Daredevil and possibly more Jessica Jones, as well as Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders arriving in the next few years, there’s definitely no stopping the Punisher from getting a few shots in as well. S. Craig Zahler On Board To Helm BREAKING THE EMPIRE STATE

Blumhouse If you’re keen on award-winning director S. Craig Zahler’s searing new horror western directorial debut, Bone Tomahawk, then you’re just in time. As Tracking Board notes, Zahler is set to direct the new action thriller, Breaking The Empire State with Marc Butan (Triple 9) of MadRiver Pictures producing. Zahler will be penning the script centered on a special agent tasked with the one-man mission to infiltrate the Empire State Building and free its two-thousand hostages from its terrorist captors. Peter Chelsom To Direct WWII Book Adaptation, THE PALADIN

Author Brian Garfield has written a number of literary titles that have earned a fair share of acclaim in film and television, including revenge thrillers like Charles Bronson’s legendary action classic, Death Wish and James Wan’s 2007 adaptation, Death Sentence starring Kevin Bacon. That said, if that doesn’t get your attention here for director Peter Chelsom’s latest on deck, I don’t know what will. Garfield’s 1979 publication with co-author “Christopher Creighton”, The Paladin, is set during World War II when Winston Churchill II sought to win the war through a top-secret program in which he would ultimately turn a 15-year old boy into England’s greatest assassin. Intriguing, yes, and the book has gotten some amply good responses from readers, which has since grabbed the attention of private production company, The Firm, last month. STANDOFF Gets A New Trailer And Release Dates

Director Adam Alleca’s new home invasion thriller, Standoff is now available on DirecTV as of January 14. For those of you interested more in big screen cinemafare, Saban Films is releasing it on limited screens and on digital HD on February 12. A fresh new trailer is now making the rounds this week to help kick things off between now and then, and not for nothing either with Lawrence Fishburne standing out in stellar villainous fashion opposite actor Thomas Jane. George Miller Corrects The Record, Promises More MAD MAX Films After 'Fury Road'

It took a matter of a few days but  filmmaker George Miller had to clarify a few things after statements recorded for the Page Six Column of the New York Post went public. The subject in question pertained to whether or not he would direct more Mad Max films following his recent success with the fourth, Mad Max: Fury Road last summer. “I won’t make more ‘Mad Max’ movies,” said Miller as quoted in the original report. “‘Fury Road’ with Charlize Theron, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Riley Keough was forever getting completed. If you finish one in a year, it’s considered a leap of faith. Directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo may be busy getting things moving with their end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at its current state, but that doesn’t mean they’re not privy to info and means that could help other film projects. In a story published at The New Yorker, writer Tad Friend centers his latest piece on the dealings that encircle the business model of STX Entertainment and its chairman Adam Fogelson. One such segment places a little bit more light on the development on the latest international action thriller, Mile 22, which was announced last March. Then-UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Indonesian action star Iko Uwais were the first two to be cast with The Rundown and Battleship helmer Peter Berg intially producing for STX. KEEP CALM, Mike Binder Is Directing His Debut Action Novel For New Line

Multifaceted and acclaimed filmmaker Mike Binder is triggering a throwback moment for me. We’re talking about someone who directed one of the wackiest comedies ever erected in the 1990’s, Blankman, and lately in recent memory he’s polished up quite nicely. Signature dramas such as Reign On Me and Black And White are worth noting to that end, and now it appears he’s begun making headway with his forthcoming debut action novel, Keep Calm. Last year was a tremendous year to be director George Miller. The release of his latest film, Mad Max: Fury Road was an otherwise culminating moment that ultimately proved beneficial at the box office as well as among critics, ultimately celebrating the return of an iconic film anti-hero.
