Time will tell if Joker Game helmer Irie Yu’s latest take on Jung Byung-Gil’s hit 2012 Korean murder mystery thriller, Confession Of Murder, will be nothing short of a paint-by-numbers remake or a solid movie. That said, it’s worth noting that one good reason why any film might get remade for another market is because of the potential it has for newer audiences which is understandable. Action Boys helmer Jung Byung-Gil rose to acclaim in 2012 with the South Korean feature film hit, Confession Of Murder, and rightfully so with Best New Director and Best Screenplay at Grand Bell and Baek Sang award shows, all earned with one of the most riveting murder mysteries ever put on film. Actors Jung Jae-Yung and Park Si-Hoo starred from a script written by Jung outing an epic battle of wits between a vengeful cop and a man who claims to be the serial killer he failed to catch years fifteen earlier. Rurouni Kenshin fans in Japan and the Philippines are getting first dibs at director Keishi Otomo‘s theatrical two-part contribution to the live-action manga franchise in just a little over a month and a half from now, and if you haven’t seen the first film on a legitimate DVD or Blu-Ray, (and if this latest study on DVDs and Blu-Ray discs won’t be an issue for you three years from now) you’re in luck. Several editions of it are already available on said platforms from various international distributors (and I’m not including the bootleg DVDs floating around out there claiming to be “all-region” and legit. While Japanese households will catch actor Takeru Satoh on his latest gig in Fuji TV’s new action comedy series, Bitter Blood, the action will continue this summer on the big screen with the actor reprising his role once more in the sequel chambara thriller, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno as the unwitting samurai forced to pick up his sword and defend Japan against the “Jupponagata” (Ten Swords), led by a ruthless assassin, played by Tatsuya Fujiwara. The film is the first of a two-part finale filmed back to back last year following the success of its successful 2012 predecessor, Rurouni Kenshin, based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original manga from Shueisha and directed by Keishi Otomo who helms the current film trilogy. The New RUROUNI KENSHIN Sequel Poster Bids "Farewell" To A Legend

It’s been about a month since we saw the most recent trailer for the upcoming two-part finale to the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy, and even longer since the first film finally premiered at LA Eigafest in 2012 with nary a word on a DVD/Blu-Ray release except for select territories overseas. Nonetheless, the last two films are on their way, and a new poster has gone viral this week to showcase more artwork featuring actor Tatsuya Fujiwara leering above as the main nemesis of our titular hero, reprised once more by Takeru Satoh. I fully admit I haven’t had the opportunity to see the first Rurouni Kenshin film that became a film festival favorite back in 2012 before a sequel was greenlit. So hopefully I will get around to that as the hype continues to build for the new films that are well on their way this year. And not for nothing either, as the sequels are becoming more and more anticipated by fans of the original manga/anime properties, and of the chambara film genre with a teaser already online as of late last year, and a new full length trailer which finally arrived this week which you can check out below. Poster And Trailer For SHIELD OF STRAW

A new poster has gone viral this week for the upcoming Japan April 26, 2013 premiere of the new Takashi Miike film from Warner Bros. Japan, Shield Of Straw. The film is executive produced Seiji Okuda, Hiroyoshi Koiwai, produced by Misako Saka, Maeda Shigeji, and written by Tamio Hayashi, based on a 2004 crime novel by Kazuhiro Kiuchi. It stars Takao Osawa (Sky High, Goemon) and Nanako Matsushima (The Ring) as detectives from the Fukuoka Prefectural Police who are hired to protect a murder suspect played by Tatsuya Fujiwara (Battle Royale) when he discovers a 1 billion yen bounty on his head by the victim’s grandfather, a powerful figure in the financial world.
