Fresh off of filming his forthcoming epic, Dragon Blade, action star Jackie Chan has since moved on to his personal labor of love as of late, the forthcoming production of the action comedy, Skiptrace. The actor is currently in Malaysia filming with The Legend Of Hercules helmer Renny Harlin who was announced to direct back in May following the departure of then-director Sam Fell. With production now underway as of last month, Deadline has the official word of another name change, this time for actor Johnny Knoxville (The Last Stand, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) now up for the role previously announced for actor Sean William Scott. It’s not exactly news that actor and action superstar Jackie Chan loves action movies, and his lifelong devotion to kung fu and the magic of cinema speaks for itself, evolving from his younger years as a Peking opera performer and professional stuntman, to actor, award-winning Hong Kong and Hollywood superstar, philanthropist and Guiness World Record holder. However, this week, Chan‘s generosity continues to prove boundless, in light of the events at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival underway this month. It took a little bit more time to bring some veracity to the latest photos news regarding the current prodiction of action star Jackie Chan‘s new epic, Dragon Blade, which just wrapped filming at Hengdian World Studios and will continue shooting in parts of the Gobi Desert this week. On Sunday, long after previous reports mentioning actors John Cusack and Adrien Brody joining the cast, official news arrived via industry site Variety formally announcing the actors who, based on a story by Chan, will respectively play Lucius, a Roman general who leads a legion of soldiers into China and escapes treachery at the hands of power-hungry warlord Tiberius. Opposite Brody, Cusack joins Chan who will play a fallen Han Dynasty commander who escapes enslavement as the two embark on a journey to protect China’s borders and sovereignty. The film will mark Chan‘s first time on the big screen with Hollywood actor Mel Gibson after the two were rumored in earlier reports last year as possible choices to appear together in director Patrick Hughes’ upcoming blockbuster release, The Expendables 3, before the latter of the two was solely confirmed. Directed by Ding Sheng, the film promises to bring a new, darker aesthetic to the classic, more colorful titular film series that earned Chan his fame as a leading figure in Hong Kong action cinema back in the 1980’s. Perhaps one of the most notable things about Jackie Chan films as of late is that they aren’t as commercialized in America as they used to be in the late 1990’s when Chan was crossing over. Nowadays it seems his films are now bumped down to limited screens in specific theaters, as was the case with the recently released CZ12. That said, Chan‘s latest return to the big screen with director Ding Sheng for Police Story 2013 is getting an IMAX release at home. Based on the newest trailer, the film looks really gritty, true-to-form and hardcore as one could hope for a cop movie starring Chan as he switches gears just a little bit. As stated in previous reports, the film will follow actor and Star Asia Lifetime Achievement Award winner Jackie Chan in a role suited with a different narrative diverging from prior films of the franchise leading up to New Police Story (2004). Police Story 2013 was announced in September of 2012, and proceeded filming two months later through February this year before its unveiling at the Beijing International Film Festival. Shortened by about 20 minutes, film is latest directorial project earning international action legend, co-writer/producer and director Jackie Chan two Guiness World Records, including “Most Stunts Performed By A Living Actor”, and “Most Credits In One Movie”. The film is also one of Chan‘s final performances in an action role before promoting his currently completed Police Story 2013 and moving onto non-action roles such as his next film, Skiptrace.
