Joe Taslim Joins STAR TREK: BEYOND!
With all the Star Wars blurbs and murmurs regarding titles like Mile 22 and Beyond Skyline, it’s become quite clear that some of the biggest names in Indonesian action are making headway beyond their domain, and for all intents and purposes, this is an excellent thing. Actor Joe Taslim can certainly fit the mold having joined the other two in the 2011/2012 movie, The Raid, a film that has certainly garenered them a spotlight in the film industry, leading to great prospects and with specific regard to Taslim‘s role in the 2013 action adventure franchise thriller, Furious 6 for Universal Pictures.
That particular film came at a time when Taslim was supposed to be moving forward on a film titled The Night Comes For Us from a script by Todd Brown over at production and international sales outlet XYZ Films which would no less continue the fervor from The Raid for a niche that has grown to include what Indonesia has to offer. Unfortunately that title never came to pass, although that is not to say it put a damper on his prospects there after, because clearly, it hasn’t.
The word from THR now states the former Judo practitioner-turned-actor is now ready to go where no man has gone before, thus rejoining Furious 6 director Justin Lin for the forthcoming July 8, 2016 release of Star Trek: Beyond. The report says little of Taslim‘s role although it does mention one opposite actor Idris Elba who recently made his own addition to the cast official via video for the production’s Boldly Go campaign earlier this month.
The trend is major and huge, and not one to look away from with folks like Taslim breaking the mold little by little for Asian stardom in Hollywood, which also makes this a win for martial arts fans. An actor with an immense athletic capability to do what is required is always welcome, and hopefully we will be seeing some of it in the film.

Lin To Direct Cinemax Bruce Lee-Inspired Crime Series, WARRIOR
Well this is fancy!
Cinemax is reportedly beefing up efforts toward developing a Bruce Lee-inspired serial crime drama titled Warrior. Fast And Furious franchise helmer Justin Lin is poised to executive produce and potentially direct the pilot from a script by executive producer, Banshee co-creator Jonathan Tropper which centers on an anti-heroic, gifted fighter who is thrown into a crisis that undermines his quest for revenge.
The series was the first of several projects that began conception early on as Lin pacted with Chinese media magnate Bruno Wu for the launch of TV enterprise, Perfect Storm Entertainment a few years ago. The project is based on Lee’s earlier writings which never saw the light of day after his death in 1973, until they were discovered by Shannon Lee, daughter of the iconic film legend and CEO of Bruce Lee Enterprises, prior to jumping aboard with Lin and Wu and introducing it to Cinemax.
The series is another meaty add-on to the forthcoming roster for Cinemax with its currently successful line-up of action-heavy shows with Banshee getting ready for new season and Strike Back premiering its forth and final season soon. The series also serves as a reminder of the prospects that await as Lee herself is getting ready to assemble what she deems as the “definitive” Bruce Lee biopic.
It’s busy times indeed. There’s plenty of Bruce Lee-releated material in development other than the aforementioned, so fans of the late film legend should be quite excited. In the meantime, Lin’s latest producer credit on the June 26 release of American/Asian cross over road comedy, Hollywood Adventures, while his pilot for the second season of True Detective airs on June 21.
Lin is also directing Star Trek 3 which has a July 8, 2016 release.
In seperate TV-related news, NBC has reportedly dropped the pilot for its own series similarly-titled Warrior, which may see its new home at Fox instead.
Stay tuned.

STAR TREK 3 Boldly Goes With 'Fast And Furious 6' Helmer Justin Lin To Direct
Well, it took long enough, but Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions and Bad Robot finally found a director for the third installation of Star Trek in Justin Lin. The search for a director began last year as J.J. Abrams, who directed the first two movies which earned major commercial success in 2009 and last year, was in talks to possibly take the reigns of Disney’s latest efforts with Star Wars: The Force Awakens as of late.
Lin, notably known for his work on four of the now seven Fast And Furious films for Universal Pictures, was among a shortlist of five other directors a week ago. The director is currently in the running for other projects which, as things stand, include directing Jeremy Renner in a new Bourne movie, as well as a yet-uncertain return to the Fast And Furious franchise for a multi-film finale as reported in November. Roberto Orci, who is still producing the film after rescinding on directing the film in recent week, is said to have already turned in an approving script for a production that could start sometime in February. Actors Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, actress Zoe Saldana and actor Simon Pegg are among those expected to reprise their roles from the first two films while details and announcements await pertaining to plot hints centered on the crew’s five year voyage and the studio’s hopes of echoing the successful vision of James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Star Trek 3 awaits a new title, among other things, while currently aiming for a release in 2016 in tandem with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the original series.

Justin Lin Reportedly In Talks To Direct Multi-Film FAST AND FURIOUS Finale
Aside from hoping Rob Cohen would return to the franchise in some way after delivering such a successful first film back in 2002, it’s certainly fitting to see Lin back in the throes of the franchise once again. I wrote an epic editorial last year paying homage to his contribution to the franchise in its ever-growing and successful state prior to his departure onto other film and television ventures before horror director James Wan was brought on board for the seventh film. As such, with an eighth consecutive installment unlikely after all that has happened, today’s news has certainly opened the doors for curiousity as to how this epic story of modern-day road warriors will continue. Of course, without Walker, that journey may be bittersweet for many, but there’s plenty of reason to stay excited nonetheless before and after Furious 7 releases in theaters and IMAX on April 3, 2015, especially after its eventful first teaser now online.
Will Chris Hemsworth Be A 'LIONHUNTER' For The Upcoming LETHAL WEAPON Reboot?
For now, Marvel fans will have their leading man for Asgardian superhero, Thor, in actor Chris Hemsworth in the forthcoming releases of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and the currently-developing Thor 3. Although, it is worthy of noticing when an actor like Hemsworth finally puts Mjölnir down and steps into other roles, which brings us to the latesr updates regarding the long-developing reboot of the Lethal Weapon franchise.
Sources now indicate that Hemsworth is up for a role in new film with the working title, Lionhunters. The Lethal Weapon reboot was announced back in 2008 at the behest of franchise producer Joel Silver with script treatment by Shane Black followed by a retouching with Gangster Squad screenwriter Will Beall in 2011. Originally, the plan was to reboot the franchise with the original team, led by actors Mel Gibson and Danny Glovers reprising their roles as seasoned L.A. detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, respectively, in what might have been the film’s finale.
Also updating previous news of Zombieland helmer Reuben Fleischer’s attachment is the word that Fast And Furious 3-6 helmer Justin Lin is now being tapped to direct the film, following the production of his upcoming kung fu reboot, Shaolin Temple 3D, and a new Bourne film by August of next year.
All four Lethal Weapon films were directed by franchise helmer Richard Donner and became nearly $1 billion dollar blockbuster four-film success story between 1987 and 1998. I’m not too sure what the new working title would entail as it seems very peculiar.
Hemsworth‘s name was most recently mentioned alongside The Hunger Games franchise co-star, actor, Liam Hemsworth (although yet to be confirmed if anything), to star as the brother characters for The Expendables 3 helmer Patrick Hughes’ upcoming action crime remake, The Raid for XYZ Films. The actor is also poised to star in director Michael Mann’s upcoming international thriller, Cyber, as well as a 2016 follow-up to Snow White And The Huntsman (2012).

Justin Lin Lines Up To Helm SHAOLIN TEMPLE 3D
Having passed up offers to direct the pending Highlander reboot and the next Terminator movie since finishing up his participation in the Fast And Furious franchise with part six, director Justin Lin has since volunteered to take on Universal Pictures’ next Bourne film which will see Jeremy Renner return for a release date set for August 14, 2015. But taking on the classic superspy character based on the work of late novel author Robert Ludlum won’t be all Lin will place his focus on for the next few years, with the latest reports based on statements made a press conference this week in Beijing.
Lin, who also directed the mockumentary 70’s comedic martial arts spoof, Finishing The Game, is returning to his kung fu roots, reportedly aiming a $100 million 3D remake of director Chang Hsin Yen’s 1982 martial arts film, Shaolin Temple. Based on Shaolin folklore, the 1982 film takes place between the Sui and Tang Dynasties and centers on the story of a young man who escapes certain death and is spirited away to a Shaolin Temple where he is nursed back to health and taught kung fu, before setting out to avenge his father’s death at the hands of a corrupt general who betrays the Tang Emperor and usurps himself to power.
Prior to getting remade in 2011 under director Benny Chan’s Shaolin, the ’82 film led to two loosely attached sequels formulating a Shaolin Temple “trilogy”, headlining several earlier successes that would see a much younger Jet Li rise to kung fu cinema superstardom with a following transition to Hollywood blockbuster action hero before ultimately slowing down as of late due to a hyperactive thyroid condition. Coincidentally, the film is the second of Li’s previous work to find headlines once more since actor Eddie Peng landed the lead role of Wong Fei-Hung last year in Roy Chow’s upcoming film, Rise Of A Legend.
Shaolin Temple 3D is the latest project highlighting the new partnership between Beijing Enlight Pictures, Seven Stars and Perfect Storm with Troy Poon, Bruno Wu and Wang Changtian producing the film, while a Hollywood A-list writer is being sought after for the project.
Lin will also be executive producing the aforementioned Highlander reboot which will be helmed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan.

James Wan Will Direct Fast 7
Universal Pictures is stopping at nothing to fast-track the production of Fast And Furious 7 as we are a little over a month away from seeing actors Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reunite with its ensemble cast in the May 24 release of Fast And Furious 6. As a result, director Justin Lin, who has been with the series since the franchise’s third installment, The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, declined to helm the seventh installment, which is currently slated for an April 2014 release.
(UPDATED) Justin Lin Says No To Helming FAST 7
Filmmaker Justin Lin is slowing down and putting the breaks on directing the upcoming seventh installment of the Fast And Furious film franchise. According to several reports, the filmmaker whose films have grossed over a billion dollars, including the colossal success of the previous three Fast And Furious films he directed, is stepping back from the director’s chair on Fast And Furious 7, citing the heavy workload between between films considering Universal wants the next film to start right away.
Gina Carano Expresses Her Inner Fantasies In A New FAST AND FURIOUS 6 Featurette
Yahoo! Movies has a new featurette for the upcoming film from Universal Pictures, Fast And Furious 6, directed by Justin Lin, and opening in theaters on May 24, 2013. The clip shows actors Luke Evans , Michelle Rodriguez and Gina Carano discussing their respective takes on the physicality of their characters, including Rodriguez and Carano who go toe-to-toe in what has been described as the female equivalent to the action sequence between Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The Fast And Furious Justin Lin, Still Holding It Together
The first film, The Fast And The Furious set the ultimate stage in the world of illegal street racing, where allegiances are tested, lives are lost. And the only question that remains is how far, and fast undercover cop Brian O’Conner (Walker) is willing to go to ultimately choose between fighting for the woman he loves, Mia, (Brewster) or risk losing her in pursuit of her elusive brother, Dominic Toretto (Diesel).
