Perhaps there is some light at the end of the seeming long and unending tunnel comprised of failed attempts to transition dated film content to contemporary serial programming. For this instance, Fox’s latest trailer for Lethal Weapon doesn’t really give me much to feel inspired over, and hasn’t been that long since CBS handed down its Supergirl series over to the CW. This, on top of the latter network’s choice to cancel their latest efforts toward a Rush Hour series after the first season has given them a lot of ground to cover in picking up the slack. Franco, Cheung's FUTURE WORLD Adds Jovovich, Lewis Jr. And More

Wanna see actor James Franco play a futuristic drug lord? Well now your chance is coming with the production of his latest indie sci-fi, Future World from Dark Rabbit Productions. Franco and writer Bruce Thierry Cheung are directing from Cheung’s script written with Jeremy Cheung and Jay Davis about a boy and his loyal bodyguard, tasked with a treacherous journey across the dystopia in search of a rarely known cure for his ailing mother, while an evil plot brews from the nefarious Warlord and his beautiful, lethal robot assassin. WHEELMAN: Netflix Acquires Worldwide Rights To Jeremy Rush’s New Frank Grillo Action Headliner

Last week’s announcement of director Jeremy Rush’s newest action flick, Wheelman, took shape finally at Cannes with word that dominant streaming video service, Netflix, has officially secured the film’s global rights. Some exhibitors feel threatened by the company’s proliferation following recent efforts toward day-and-date releases, but it’s happening nonetheless and those with Netflix aren’t hugely stressing the matter. It does make you wonder about the theatergoing experience though, and hopefully this doesn’t have a lasting and negative effect. We’ll see. At any rate, Grillo’s got a bit of an eventful summer ahead, and more details are available further below. Finnish filmmaker Jesse Haaja’s efforts toward his own superhero property have been nothing short of enduring. Actress Margot Robbie’s debut as Harley Quinn who appears in Ayer’s upcoming film on August 5. The move in question, however, will be to spin her character off toward the center of a brewing vision for a female superheroine line-up, including titles centered on Batgirl and Birds Of Prey. StudioCanal Sells Rights To Classic Revenge Thriller FEAR IS THE KEY

With StudioCanal on hand at Cannes this past week, Deadline reports on one of their latest prospects – a revenge thriller that incidentally comes with a bit of a legacy attached. Enter producer Cassian Elwes whose stepfather served as executive producer of Michael Tuchner’s 1972 film, Fear Is The Key.
