Lee B. Golden III

For starters, to simply address the overwhelming support drawn for creative duo, actors Joey Ansah and Christian Howard‘s new online webseries release of Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist would be nothing short of an understatement. The phenomenon has captured the hearts of any growing number of thousands of fans this year and in the years since the journey began to reclaim the rightful cinematic vision for Capcom’s highly popular video game franchise, and it’s finally heading to television, DVD, Blu-Ray and VoD platforms soon. And as much support as there has been for the series, it was only a matter of time before sequel-hungry fans got the update they were waiting for. That update finally came on Friday night as Ansah attended San Diego Comic-Con to promote the current series in accordance with publicity for the forthcoming production booklet. Fans have also been generating further publicity for the series’ official Facebook […]

The King Has Returned In The New Teaser For THRONE!

The King Has Returned In The New Teaser For THRONE!

Lee B. Golden III

It’s great to live in an age where the online independent film scene has expanded to a point where bonafide stunt performers and martial artists are able to come together en masse and create something as epic as what actor, stuntman and co-writer Aaron Toney is currently brewing. Case in point: The latest teaser for Throne, the story of a king who sets out find the man responsible for framing him for the death of his own family. A co-production of PMV Entertainment and Halvon Corps Entertainment, Throne assembles a meaty handful of top notch action performers led by Toney, along with James Young and Brendon Huor, and it’s been a considerable matter of time for all the details to come out and help offer a better undetstanding of what this new project will entail beyond the actors involved. My previous discussions with Toney on the status of it so […]

Following director Tsai Yueh-Tsun‘s previous work on Black And White: The Dawn Of Assault, his next big effort with Black And White 2: The Dawn Of Justice is another bold effort to sharpen the equality of blockbuster action movies overseas. And so far, we’ve seen a teaser and featurette that helps showcase a little more of that effort, but largely toward the big scale of storytelling. This week, the push continues further with a new subtitled trailer, and it does come short in some areas where CG shots are applied. However, if you love the action genre and don’t mind giving the film shot, then Black And White 2: The Dawn Of Justice is just the film for you. And in 3D at that! SYNOPSIS: Police officer in the Southern Precinct, WU Ying-xiong, has been revered as a hero in the Harbor City ever since he stopped the terrorists on […]

Cinematic Fight Studio Presents: MOST WANTED

Cinematic Fight Studio Presents: MOST WANTED

Lee B. Golden III

It took all but three months of training in hand-to-hand and weapons for independent filmmakers and stunt trainers at Cinematic Fight Studio to help assemble their latest project with student, up-and-coming actress Kadia Saraf. The end result is what you now see in their new experimental action shortfilm, Most Wanted, which showcases Saraf as she takes on a bounty hunter hot on her tail, played by actor, martial artist and fellow trainer and choreographer, Neyssan Falahi. The project marks Saraf‘s first-ever stint in screenfighting, something she’s wanted to do for a while now, and couldn’t have come at better time than several months ago, thanks in part to her already-established friendship with Falahi. From there, that was when the hard work began, and as independent filmmaker and choreographer Lang Yip explains, despite Saraf‘s own self-defense training and workout lifestyle, turning into a performer for the camera had its share of […]

Some say that patience is a virtue for anything worth waiting for, and for fans of martial arts stars Wu Jing and Scott Adkins, the reward is finally getting closer with the latest thirty second teaser for Wu‘s solo directorial debut, Special Force: Wolf Warrior (formerly known as Warg and Wolf War). Up until now, we’ve only gotten small glimpses of the production with some viral stills and behind-the-scenes pics and featurette late last year. Other than that, it’s safe to say the film is still in post-production, but the film presents quite a good looking cast, which namely so far includes Yu Nan (The Expendables 2) and Vincent Zhao (The Blacksheep Affair) to name a few. Hopefully more official info about the film’s cast, characters and plot will surface. In the meantime, with Wu still on the set of his next thriller, SPL 2: A Time For Consequences with […]

ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY Goes Live Action In France With A New Parkour Short!

Lee B. Golden III

Gamemaker Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity comes out this October, and if you love all things Assassin’s Creed, then San Diego Comic Con is especially the place to be. In light of the event, independent filmmaker Devin Graham has unleashed his newest action short attributed to the fifth game of the series titled, Assassin’s Creed Unity Meets Parkour In Real Life. Shot on location throughout the streets and architectural fixtures in Paris to present the look of the game’s French backdrop, the project did have its hinderances between the weather, and curious police officers kicking them out and off of certain landmarks – it’s the nature of indie film I guess, and considering the result and that no one was hurt or arrested, I say it was well worth it. The short is principally performed by freerunner Ronnie Shalvis, along with France’s own French Freerun Family, featuring Yoann Zephyr Leroux, Simon […]

Could The Late LAU KAR-LEUNG Get His Own Movie?

Lee B. Golden III

The past year saw a grave loss of a few notable, memorable and iconic film figures of the martial arts and film industry as a whole, including the passing of action cinema arbiter and late kung fu cinema legend Lau Kar-Leung. Before passing away on June 25 last year at the age of 78, the late master Lau earned his acclaim in part through the shared legacy of his kung fu lineage through his father’s training under Wong Fei-Hung disciple Lam Sai-wing. In the following years, this would ultimately take his own training from the age of seven into a lucrative career as a teacher, a stuntman and rising film figure through Shaw Brothers studios in the 1960’s and 70’s, and evidently it didn’t stop there. These articles of Lau‘s stellar history in the world of kung fu cinema could be part of what is now being formulated for a […]

The New Poster And Trailer For BARAKTI Blends Modern Action Adventure With Period Epic Thrills

Lee B. Golden III

February was the last mostly anyone of us heard on the forthcoming release of director Monty Tiwa‘s new film, Barakati. While the previous teaser illustrated a graphic-novel style to its first offering of what Indonesian moviegoers and Asian cinema fans can expect, not much was largely yet known about the project except for its cast and crew. Although however, one would suspect it was only a matter of time before more info about the film would surface as 2014 rolled on, and so it has, thanks to a newly unveiled synopsis from William Chandra over at Twitchfilm: Abdul Manan, a young archeologist, embark on a journey to Buton island to unveil the missing history of Gajah Mada, a legendary military leader of Majapahit empire, last day on earth upon his meeting with an english journalist Gerry Johnson who possessed an old scripture. [UPDATED]Weapons Clash In The Intense New Teaser For THE DEAD LANDS!

Lee B. Golden III

I don’t know how excited you are about seeing what period Maori martial arts action looks like on the big screen, but I’m frickin stoked! The first official teaser arrived this week for director Toa Fraser‘s new film, The Dead Lands, which has earned a pretty good headstart in building up a fair amount of hype since production process began late last year. The film has been billed as a genuine Maori-language period action drama that promises to deliver nothing short an exhiliarating, full-scale, exciting filmgoing experience. So far however, the only experience most on-lookers online have been getting were various production photos, as well as a slate of new HD stills back in June, while some have already screen the film exclusively. And the mood, as it stands, has been nothing short of upbeat. SYNOPSIS: Hongi, a Maori chieftain’s teenage son, must avenge his father’s murder in order to […]

While action fans currently await for Robert Luketic’s The ExpendaBelles, The Asylum is making a push this week for the upcoming release of Mercenaries (formerly known as Prison Raid) with a new trailer. Christopher Ray directs the all-female line up led by Cynthia Rothrock and Brigette Nielsen, with Kill Bill veterans Zöe Bell and Vivica A. Fox, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines co-star Kristanna Loken, and actress Nicole Bilderback and actor Tim Abell rounding out the cast. Sexy Heist Action Comedy, HOW TO CON A CON, Needs Your Help On Indiegogo!

Lee B. Golden III

My earlier experiences last year while writing for Film Combat Syndicate has led me to come across some amazing and noteworthy projects, and people as well. One such project includes former stuntman-turned-filmmaker Scott Rhodes’s highly acclaimed 1960’s/70’s homage costumed action comedy series, The Adventures Of Super7even, which brought me to the talents of multifaceted actresses and stuntwomen, Olivia Dunkley and Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez. Together, on top of a long and healthy friendship, the two present a culmination of numerous shared experiences on film which has now paved the way for a project of their own in the form of the hopeful action comedy production, How To Con A Con (a.k.a. Pros And Cons). The new film, which offsets their “Laugh-It-Off” Campaign to promote laughter and happiness, offers a great description of what the plot would entail and it goes a little something like this: Alex and Jade are two sexy, sassy […]

Sam Worthington Will Say A HUNTER'S PRAYER, Filming Next Year

Lee B. Golden III

Actor Sam Worthington is only a few months away from starting production in New Zealand with the rest of the accumulating cast of director James Cameron’s epic Avatar saga between now and the next several years. In the meantime, the actor also has his hands full on a lesser CG-heavy action thriller which he will start shooting next year in Hungary with director Jonathan Mostow. The film is titled Hunter’s Prayer, based on author Kevin Wignall’s 2004 publication “For The Dogs”, which received critical acclaim and made available in the U.S. that year and in several territories thereafter. Worthington will play an assassin for hire who turns on his employers after a failed assignment to kill a young girl, forces them both on the run for their lives, with the only option of uncovering why her family was wiped out earlier on, and delivering justice to those responsible. Casting remains […]

Watch LUCY Breeze Through Baddies And Bad Traffic In Two New B-Roll Clips

Lee B. Golden III

Director Luc Besson‘s latest cerebral sci-fi action thriller, Lucy is getting its day in theaters this Friday. Clearly Besson enjoyed sharing the set with actress Scarlett Johansson in the title role, and he sure shows it in the latest two B-roll clips from the set of the film now online, along with an interview clip. On a more personal note, I have to say how awesome a treat it is knowing someone I met personally worked on this film, particularly my friend, stuntman Anthony Pho who appears briefly on a wire-rig in the first embed (4:20-4:40), and accordingly in the film. I met the guy last year in NYC and he’s too cool for words. Yeah, I’m giddy. Sue me. Check out the videos below and buy your tickets wherever tickets are sold!
