However, Sony is very much keen on weighing in the Marvel property, especially in the wake of its $822+ million dollar global box office success with Tom Hardy’s starring outing in Venom last month. The latest THR report cites that a Spider-Verse sequel and spin-off are already in the works stemming from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. Disney Fans who enjoyed the life out of seeing Tessa Thompson in Thor: Ragnarok can expect to see the actress reunite with the lead actor once more by next year. As The Hollywood Reporter noted on Wednesday with Chris Hemsworth set to officiate his casting, Thompson is already in place for F. Gary Gray’s forthcoming Men In Black reboot which will widen its U.K.-set narrative and casting on a global, ensemble scale. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are back as producers following the hit successes they earned from the original trilogy which had Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones headlining. Steven Spielberg is returning as executive produce the film with Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum penning for a June 14 release next year from Sony Pictures.

NIGHTWATCH: Spike Lee Up To Helm Marvel Adaptation For Sony

Sony is far from done with its Marvel playbook. As of Tuesday’s reporting from That Hashtag Show, the word now is that Spike Lee is circling an adaptation of Nightwatch for Netflix series Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker to pen. Sony executive veep Palak Patel is overseeing development of the film whose IP launched in 1993, telling of Kevin Trench, an African-American doctor whose perilous journey begins after witnessing his future self in the costume lose his life while facing off against hijackers. Further digging into the comic book lore reveals more upheaval as it turns out that his suit is made from the very technology designed by an industrialist to treat his son, born with wife and Trench’s former lover, Ashley. Nightwatch adds to the raft of Sony’s Marvel slate which currently lists a Spider-Man sequel, Venom, and Silver & Black to name a few.

Actor Vin Diesel is still brewing a return to the Fast lane for Universal with at least two films to go. Goyer has directed other than Blade: Trinity, all in my own hope that we would have a solid trilogy on our hands. And no, we didn’t even get that…which is why to date, I always recommend Blade and Blade 2 to fans and friends and I espouse about both movies frequently.
