Studio 8’s Action Sci-Fi Adaptation, THE HIDDEN GIRL, Gets A New Writer

Author and screenwriter Ellen Shanman has been busy working her fingers with projects Paramount, Imagine and Black Label Media among a raft of other companies. Her workload now extends to efforts currently in the hands of Studio 8 for an adaptation of Ken Liu’s 2017 publication, The Hidden Girl, which the firm landed in 2016. The female-centric sci-fi thriller tells of an ancient Chinese myth about a team of women assassins who can navigate between dimensions. As Anita Busch’s exclusive on Tuesday details, The Hidden Girl is one of over 100 short stories, many of which have decorated Liu with multiple awards, including 2012 publications “The Paper Menagerie” and “Mono no Aware”, and the multi-award winnint Spring 2015 print, “The Grace of Kings”. Fox Husband/Wife film duo, actress Melissa McCarthy and filmmaker Ben Falcone are readying a July start date for New Line Cinema action comedy, Super-Intelligence. As Borys Kit’s exclusive at The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday notes, the film will be their fourth collaboration in an actor/director capacity since Tammy (2014), The Boss (2016), and the upcoming May 11 release of Life Of The Party. In Super-Intelligence, McCarthy will play Carol Peters, a former corporate executive whose earnest yet unfulfilled life is turned upside down when she is selected for observation by the world’s first super-intelligence – an artificial intelligence that may or may not take over the world. It feels like forever since director Wilson Yip (Ip Man franchise) made headlines with trailers for his most recent film, Paradox. Heck, even keeping up with its context made it difficult to assert what its official title was after it was renamed from its preliminary title, Fate, going into production. Needless to say, selling this film as something of a narrative tangent or a direct-third installment of the SPL franchise was a great way to get coverage. Assassin Thriller AMBER Lands A Brand New Trailer

Career stuntman David Newton made waves over the weekend debuting the official trailer for his directorial debut, Amber. The end may sure justify the means though, having already stricken acclaim at several events since last year and to date, which already seems to put the film on good trajectory toward positive reception for a wider release. Stuntman and actor Jack Jagodka makes his own starring debut here playing a hitman forced back in the game in order to save his daughter following a botched job. Eloise Carrow produces with a script penned by Newton, and with a that enlists title actress Connie Jenkins-Grieg. Also starring are Kevin Mangar, Jailbreak star Jean-Paul Ly, Marvel’s Doctor Strange actress Katrina Durden and Underground and upcoming Vengeance co-star Beau Fowler. It wasn’t long after the most recent teaser trailer for HanYan’s fantasy thriller, Animal World, that social media started spawning memes boasting actor Li Yifeng’s role as akin to that of Asia’s answer to Deadpool. Development had also seen a revolving door of its own with directors and writers come and gone over the years, which now brings exclusive word from Deadline on Wednesday with Ashley Edward Miller (Andromeda, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, X-Men: First Class, Thor, Black Sails) now set to pen the script.
